Things to do in St Augustine in April
April is going to be a GREAT month in St Augustine FL!
St. Augustine’s “Best Festival” gets things started April 4-6, with the 19th Annual Rhythm & Ribs Festival, with award-winning BBQ, great live music, arts and crafts vendors, and lots of things for the kids to do!
On April 5, there is the Food Truck Rally at World Golf Hall of Fame; Cooking with Herbs at Maggies Herb Farm; Sunset Celebration at Vilano Beach Pier with a special visit by the Espiritu, the crew of which will present demonstrations/interpretations of Ponce-period military arts, cooking, and crafts.
Golfers will want to hit Masters Weekend at World Golf Hall Of Fame April 10 thru 13. On April 11, more than 50 local vendors with fresh food and specialty items also will be on site for the World Golf Village Farmers Market.
On April 12, head over to 112 Riberia Street when the St. Augustine Distillery Co., Ice Plant Bar & Restaurant, and KYV Farm come together for The Bartender’s Garden Workshop. Learn to concoct cocktails with Distillery mixologist Zach Lynch. This hands-on workshop is one part instruction, one part inspiration, and one part innovation. You’ll be reminded of bartending basics (such as how to shake, stir, balance and muddle your drinks) and learn how to gain inspiration from the fresh, in-season ingredients from KYN farms. Then roll up your sleeves with seasonal samples and ravage a table full of spirits, mixers, garnishes, and more to build your own delicious concoction. $55 per person. The weekend of April 12 and 13 marks the Celebration of Spring 19th Annual Flower & Garden Expo sponsored by Epic Community Services. This year’s show features a variety of vendors bringing a wide array of horticulture, including olive trees, aquatic plants, herbs, ferns, succulents, citrus, African violets, anthuriums, bamboo, colorful flowering plants, butterfly plants, native plants, and more plus gardening accessories and art. At Francis Field, also on April 12 and 13, is the Old Town Art Show, featuring exquisite jewelry; funky and functional pottery; abstract sculpture; glistening glass; hand-woven fashions; stunning photography; extraordinary paintings; wonderful wood carvings. 10 am to 5 pm both days. Visit holidayartshows.com to confirm details. On the 13th, join the celebration of our rich maritime heritage at the Blessing of the Fleet. Reverend Felipe J. Estevez, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine will offer the traditional blessing from the docks of the St. Augustine City Marina to all who pass before him (1 pm, on the bayfront at 111 Avenida Menendez). Velofest is in town also, sportin’ professional cyclists racing through the streets of St. Augustine, live music, food, and a bike parade.
On April 19, be sure to swing by the new Rock Art Studio at 1333 Old Dixie Highway (behind Winn Dixie) for the opening night exhibit by local artist Jenica “Hen” Frederickson, “This Is My Town; These Are My People”.
On Easter (April 20), start the day with an outdoors mass at 7 and 10 am at the Rustic Altar at Mission Nombre de Dios (27 Ocean Avenue). Promenade in your Sunday best through the Plaza at 12:30 and perhaps win a prize for best dressed, best hat, youngest, oldest, etc. Afterwards (at 3 pm), the city’s carriage horses will don their Easter hats and hook up with the Easter Bunny for the Easter Parade.
On the 24th, learn to play the Native American flute at the Native American Flute Workshop! Learn the first fingerings, beginning melodies, phrasing, and traditional songs. April 26 brings the 18th Annual Merrill Lynch event -- A Taste of St. Augustine at the Amphitheatre. This signature food festival serves up exciting tastes from over 20 of St. Augustine’s favorite restaurants. A live music festival all day, special children's area, and a culinary marketplace. Wrap up Easter Festival month activities on April 27 with the Fromajardes Serenade (a traditional Minorcan celebration during which young men are rewarded for their serenading abilities with Fromajardes, a Minorcan cheese pastry) and the St. Augustine Royal Tea (afternoon royal tea party with St. Augustine Royalty--Queen Marianna, King Juan Carlos, and Princess Margarita Maria as portrayed by local heritage residents).
