Local St Augustine artist hosts September 20 Social Hour
Raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Jackie obtained her BFA from Kutztown University. Illustration and expressionist pop surrealism are her strengths as a fine art painter. In 2004, Rock Art, Inc., was born, with murals and Faux art commissions becoming her main source of income as a successful full-time artist. In the 1990s, faux finishing became the design choice over wallpaper and then became an uber popular technique in furniture restoration. Though high-end homes initially led these trends and prices were high, this technique has become so popular that truly talented artists like Jackie bring forth the skill, the emotion, and the impressive product at a price conducive to everyone’s budget.
When Jackie came to St. Augustine FL in 2010, she brought with her a passion for the town, its history, its people past and present.
You’ll find her mural work on ceilings and walls and furniture pieces in a number of local bed and breakfasts and in the scenic stage work at Flagler Playhouse in Bunnell FL (to include a sky mural that overlooks audience seating, featuring nearly 2000 square feet of hand-painted clouds).
Other St. Augustine projects graced by her brush have included a front door project of a Weeden Street home; the creation of faux wood garage doors for a house off Martin Luther King Boulevard; a kitchen cabinet remodel on South Street; and faux wood interior doors for a Twine Street home. She is currently training an apprentice to assist with her specialty projects--Venetian Plasters, a high-dollar exclusive finish. Venetian plaster is a wall and ceiling finish consisting of plaster mixed with marble dust, applied with a spatula or trowel in thin, multiple layers, which are then burnished to create a smooth surface with the illusion of depth and texture. Venetian plaster can be used to create a highly polished, rock-hard, marble-like finish. It is especially useful on surfaces where marble panels could not be installed easily, and on surfaces that would be too expensive to have carved from real marble such as columns, corbels and curved walls.
Jackie also is an instructor at Painting With A Twist (PWAT) St. Augustine, an art studio that caters to the novice painter, providing step-by-step, how-to instruction on selected pieces.
During the September 20th social hour at Bayfront Westcott House B&B, Jackie will welcome the Inn’s overnight guests to the bayfront veranda for engaging discussion about her background, her artistic adventures, and her love for St. Augustine. She also will demonstrate how to create a masterpiece in but 15 minutes!
This event is complimentary to all overnight Inn guests. Book your room now and secure your spot front and center for this wonderful early-evening exclusive event!
