St. Augustine is the place to be on Saturday, December 8!
Start your day on the island at the Clay Network Christmas Holiday Show on the grounds of the Sydney McKenna Gallery. Choose from the work of a wide variety of ceramic artists and potters all in one central location. Enjoy the gallery and the grounds while visiting with the artists. 10 am – 5 pm, Anastasia Blvd at 5 Inlet Place. Visit www.SydneyMcKenna.com.
Then head over to town because there are 25 inns with 25 restaurants waiting to wow you. St. Augustine Historic Inn’s 19th annual Bed & Breakfast Holiday Tour will feature the age-old English Christmas carol Twelve Days of Christmas, with each Inn putting its own spin on its favorite verse of this can’t-get-it-out-of-your head holiday ditty! Each Inn has partnered with its favorite local restaurant, meaning that you will be privy to a different and distinguishing tasty treat at each inn you visit. Making its Holiday Tour debut this year is the Ximenez-Fatio House on Aviles Street. Currently a historical landmark and popular museum that depicts early tourism in Florida, Fatio House was one of St. Augustine’s very first Inns owned and operated by a woman, opening its doors to travelers in the early 1800s. The distinguished Colonial Dames of America purchased the property in 1939 and have been absolutely meticulous in its true-to-form renovations and furnishings. For the tour, the House will emulate an 1800s Florida Christmas, the décor of which will include Spanish moss, various types of citrus, sea shells, magnolia leaves, Florida sand pine, and plants native to the period. The tour is self paced and self guided. Tour time on both Saturday and Sunday 1 to 5 pm. You will receive a map of Downtown that shows which inns to tour on which day. Most of the Inns are grouped closely together, which facilitates easy walking; however, a tour shuttle will be available. Partial proceeds of this year's tour will be donated to a new education program for area homeless. Operated by First Coast Technical College, the Fresh Start Culinary Arts Program will provide training that will lead to certification from the American Culinary Federation and local and national health departments.
At Westcott House, the uber-popular Purple Olive International Bistro (whose creative restaurant menu features fresh seafood; prime cuts of beef, lamb, and pork; vegetarian choices; and fresh produce) will be on site with lobster bisque and an Ahi appetizer for everyone!
